SHE Manager

Hays Health & Safety are working with a well-established construction business that has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects across multiple sectors. This organisation is committed to safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement, and is looking for a proactive, hands-on SHE Manager to lead Health, Safety, and Environmental initiatives across its sites.

This is not a role for someone who simply sits in an office ticking compliance boxes. While maintaining ISO standards is part of the job, the real focus is on being out on site, engaging with teams, and embedding safety into everyday operations. You’ll play a key role in shaping behavioural safety programmes and driving a positive safety culture across the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain SHE management systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Actively engage with site teams to integrate health and safety into daily activities, promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Drive behavioural safety programmes and ensure they are effectively embedded across the business.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments, providing practical solutions to improve safety performance.
  • Support project teams with SHE planning, training, and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor and report on SHE performance, identifying trends and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

What you need
  • Significant experience as a SHE Manager within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001) and proven ability to develop and maintain management systems.
  • Hands-on approach with excellent communication skills to influence and engage at all levels.
  • Understanding of behavioural safety principles and experience integrating these into business practices.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification preferred.

Why apply?
  • Opportunity to make a real impact on safety culture and operational excellence.
  • Collaborative environment where your expertise is valued.
  • Competitive salary (£55k-£60k) and benefits package
