About the Role

We are seeking a Service Designer to support the transformation of services by placing individuals at the centre of the design process. This role involves applying service design and project management skills to create business-ready solutions. You will lead projects, collaborate with internal teams and external partners, and bring ideas to life through concepts, blueprints, prototypes, and new service delivery.
This role would be well suited to a candidate with one or two years' experience in service design, particularly if they have worked with Interaction design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply design thinking and methods to solve complex and detailed problems
  • Identify and use appropriate research methods (e.g., ethnography, primary/secondary research, co-design) to understand customer needs
  • Synthesise research into actionable insights, themes, and design principles
  • Develop innovative ideas, concepts, and prototypes that inspire change
  • Plan and facilitate user research and co-design workshops with stakeholders
  • Experience with Interaction Design
  • Experience working within the public sector or higher education
  • Enable co-leadership by designing solutions that empower individuals to participate in research and service design activities

Role Context

You will work within a service design and innovation team that leads design activity across a broad portfolio, from strategic thinking to detailed product and service definition. Current priorities include:
  • Designing integrated service propositions
  • Driving human-centred design to simplify complex ideas and enable change
  • Exploring longer-term innovation, including the role of Artificial Intelligence in transforming operating models and service delivery

Working Relationships
  • Internal: Collaborate with colleagues across digital services, planning, communications, operations, and research teams
  • External: Work with schools, government bodies, employers, and suppliers to deliver innovations and manage the design process

What We’re Looking For
  • Strong experience in service design and innovation
  • Skilled in research methods, design thinking, and prototyping
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts and communicate them effectively
  • Excellent collaboration and facilitation skills
  • Creative problem-solving mindset with attention to detail

Why Join Us?
You’ll be part of a team shaping the future of services, working on meaningful projects that make a real difference to individuals and communities, while exploring cutting-edge approaches like AI and human-centred design.
