Senior VMware & Automation Engineer We are seeking a Senior VMware & Automation Engineer to lead automated VM lifecycle management and infrastructure provisioning within a large-scale, secure environment. This role focuses on building efficient, reliable, and automated workflows on top of our existing VMware platforms. The ideal candidate combines strong VMware engineering skills with DevOps/IaC expertise to ensure consistent, scalable, and compliant VM operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and optimise automated VM provisioning and lifecycle workflows using PowerCLI, VMware Aria, APIs, and IaC tooling.
  • Define and improve automation approaches for VM creation, configuration, retirement, scaling, monitoring, and policy enforcement.
  • Evaluate and recommend tooling choices (e.g., PowerCLI, Aria Automation, Terraform, Ansible) based on VMware-native features, security requirements, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage and optimise VM operations across vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and integrated VMware platforms.
  • Work closely with platform SMEs (e.g., Linux/Windows experts) to ensure their work is supported by reliable and automated VM provisioning pipelines.
  • Support and improve VMware ecosystem components including NSX, vSAN, DRS, backup tooling, performance monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Maintain accurate documentation aligned with government, audit, and security requirements.
  • Contribute to resilience, continuity, and disaster-recovery strategies.

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of VMware engineering experience in enterprise or government environments.
  • Deep expertise with vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, VM lifecycle operations, and VMware best practices.
  • Strong automation experience with PowerCLI, VMware Aria, and IaC patterns; familiarity with Terraform/Ansible in VMware contexts.
  • Understanding of core VMware services including NSX, vSAN, DRS, snapshots, backups, and monitoring.
  • Solid knowledge of virtual networking, storage integration, and operations in air-gapped or zero-trust environments.
  • VMware certifications (VCP/VCAP) preferred; security certifications a plus.
  • UK National or 5 years residency

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with VMware automation frameworks (Aria Automation/Orchestrator).
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, container platforms, or hybrid VMware solutions in secure environments.
