The Opportunity

An established and growing engineering organisation operating within the water and infrastructure sector is seeking to appoint a Senior Sales Manager to support continued expansion and strengthen its commercial capability. This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to play a key role in driving revenue, managing complex tenders, and supporting strategic growth, while also leading a small team.

The Role

This is a senior, hands-on sales and commercial role responsible for managing the full tendering and sales lifecycle, from initial enquiry through to quotation, negotiation, and conversion.
You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure commercially viable and technically accurate proposals, while also contributing to business development strategy and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Tendering & Sales Delivery
  • Review and assess incoming tender opportunities
  • Interpret technical specifications and design drawings
  • Prepare detailed and accurate costings for projects ranging from £100k – £2 million
  • Produce clear, compelling, and competitive quotations
  • Manage submissions and follow-up activity to maximise conversion rates
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Liaise directly with clients to clarify project scope and requirements
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Conduct proactive follow-up on submitted quotations and ongoing opportunities
Commercial & Supply Chain Management
  • Obtain and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Ensure all proposals are commercially viable and aligned to project scope
  • Identify risks and opportunities within project pricing
CRM & Sales Operations
  • Maintain accurate records of enquiries, quotations, and pipeline activity using CRM systems
  • Track performance, conversion rates, and pipeline progression
  • Ensure high standards of reporting and data accuracy
Leadership & Team Support
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a small team (typically up to 3 individuals)
  • Support the development of team capability across sales, estimating, and administrative functions
  • Foster a collaborative, team-oriented working environment
Business Development
  • Support wider business development activity and growth initiatives
  • Identify new market opportunities and contribute to strategic planning
  • Continuously improve sales processes and operational efficiency

About You

✅ Experience
  • Proven background in sales, estimating, or commercial roles within engineering, construction, or utilities
  • Experience managing tenders, quotations, or bid processes
  • Exposure to projects within the £100k – £2m range
  • Industry experience within water, utilities, infrastructure, or similar technical sectors highly desirable
  • Experience using CRM systems for pipeline management

  • Analytical and numerate with a high level of accuracy

  • Familiarity with CRM systems and general business software
  • Strong overall IT literacy
