Your new company

Hays are partnering with a globally recognised Australian Engineering firm, specialising in the design and manufacture of DC electric vehicle (EV) fast chargers. This firm is keen to explore talent globally, specifically targeting fluent English speakers with expertise in this sector from the UK, Ireland and EU.

Your new role

We seek a talented Senior Program Manager to be responsible for leading the delivery of Ultrafast DC charger programmes, including key subsystem developments such as AC/DC and DC/DC module projects. The role ensures that all technical, cost, and timing targets are met through structured programme governance, clear communication, and disciplined systems engineering.
You will be acting as a key interface between Engineering, Product Management, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing. This role consolidates programme data into a single source of truth to drive informed decision-making and requires a strong technical background, exceptional cross-functional leadership, and the ability to manage complex programmes through all phases, from concept to market launch.

What you'll need to succeed

Essential
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Extensive experience managing complex, multidisciplinary engineering programmes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix environment.
  • Proven understanding of Systems Engineering principles and structured product development processes.
  • Expertise in project planning and tracking using MS Project, Jira, and related tools.
  • Experience applying both Waterfall and Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesise diverse data into actionable insights.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including budget management and cost tracking.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience preparing reports for executive and board-level audiences.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
Desirable
  • Experience in automotive, power electronics, or renewable energy product development.
  • Knowledge of FMEA, validation planning, and design assurance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 26262, or similar engineering quality systems.
  • Experience with hardware and software co-development programmes.

What you'll get in return

This is a unique opportunity in an exciting, fast-moving industry to work with one of the leaders in Australia. This role would ideally be based in vibrant Brisbane, but we are open to considering placement in any major Australian city. With a salary package of Au$180k + Super (pension) + 21% bonus along with VISA and relocation costs for the successful applicant, their partner and dependents (if applicable), this is an opportunity not to be passed up.
