Hays are partnered with a leading international consultancy who continue to invest in their geotechnical discipline. They are growing fast to meet demand across infrastructure (defence, rail, highways, water) and the energy sector (renewables, low carbon, and nuclear). That’s why we’re looking for an experienced, well‑rounded Senior or Principal Geotechnical Engineer to help lead delivery on some of their most prestigious and technically challenging projects.

Your Role
As a chartered Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll bring technical leadership, project management expertise, and the confidence to influence both clients and internal teams. You’ll play a key role in delivering ground engineering solutions across a broad project portfolio while helping to grow and mentor our emerging talent.

What you’ll be doing
  • Leading geotechnical design and project delivery across UK and international schemes.
  • Providing technical direction, oversight and quality assurance for geotechnical work.
  • Mentoring and developing junior engineers, supporting a culture of excellence.
  • Building strong relationships with clients and supporting bid and work‑winning activity.
  • Collaborating with multi‑disciplinary teams across major infrastructure and energy programmes.
  • Contributing to the expansion of our infrastructure or energy geotechnics capability.

About You
You’ll bring a mix of technical know‑how, consultancy experience, and the leadership presence to help shape the future of our team.
We’re looking for:

  • A strong academic background (BEng/BSc essential; MSc in a geotechnical specialism preferred).
  • Chartered status (CEng or CGeol) with proven experience in a fast‑paced consultancy.
  • Solid geotechnical design capability across foundations, retaining structures, slopes, anchors, and numerical analysis (GeoStudio, Repute, WALLAP etc.).
  • Experience working in a Design & Build environment.
  • Digital awareness — ideally including exposure to AI/machine learning applications in geotechnics.
  • Strong understanding of CDM Regulations in design and ground investigation settings.
  • Excellent communication skills, with confidence engaging clients and leading teams.
  • Commercial awareness and a track record of delivering profitable, high‑quality work.
  • A willingness to travel for short UK or international assignments.
  • A valid UK driving licence.
