Senior Payroll Officer to play a pivotal role for an organisation based in Central Norwich

Hays Accountancy & Finance are delighted to be partnering with a Norwich-based organisation who are looking for an experienced payroll senior to play a pivotal role in this newly created payroll team to ensure the accurate and efficient processing of the payroll.
Your new role
In this newly created Senior Payroll Officer / Clerk / Payroll Team Leader job, you will support the Payroll Manager in leading the payroll team in the accurate processing of the payroll, as well as ensuring the organisation complies with payroll legislation and legal requirements.
Your duties will involve working with your assistant on checking new starters, processing leavers, making changes to current workers etc. The organisation runs a monthly payroll, so you will check the payroll data prior to payment, which will include P45's, / P46 forms, bank details and prepare salary deductions regarding NI, SSP, SMP, salary sacrifice, attachment of earnings, allowances, expenses / overtime etc, as well as checking any pre-employment checks with the HR teams.
As the Senior Payroll Officer, you will advise of payroll matters to the wider payroll team and managers, which will include payroll reports, so confident IT systems and communication skills are essential as you will also be responsible for pension queries. You will also identify and implement any payroll system / process improvements as well as work with HR, Finance and other departments to ensure the payroll is delivered.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be an experienced Payroll Officer / Clerk who has managed a payroll end-to-end and now looking for your next step your career in leading and motivating the payroll team, as well as being the payroll expert regarding queries and internal processes. You will be aware of payroll legislation and best practices as well as being confident in resolving problems or payroll queries. Any formal qualification in payroll (CIPP) would be desirable but not essential.
