Join a design team in Manchester

A leading multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Manchester-based design team. This is a high-trust, autonomous role reporting directly to the Head of Design, offering the chance to work across complex projects in the healthcare, leisure, commercial, residential, and industrial sectors.
You’ll be joining a collaborative, technically driven environment where peer reviews are a large part of the workload in a team size of 10–12 (Design team with a wider 60+ technical group).

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead mechanical design and technical delivery across a range of UK and international projects
  • Conduct peer reviews and support junior engineers with technical guidance
  • Collaborate with electrical counterparts and validation teams to troubleshoot and optimise building performance
  • Engage in client-side conversations, offering clear, confident advice and technical insight
  • Work on bids and proposals with Tier 1 contractors and advisory groups
  • Uphold compliance, sustainability, and value engineering principles across all workstreams
  • Operate with autonomy while contributing to daily team meetings and shared design reviews

What You’ll Bring
  • 6–7+ years’ experience in mechanical building services design
  • Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations and sector-specific standards
  • Experience in healthcare, leisure, or commercial sectors preferred — but not essential
  • Confidence in peer reviewing and managing technical outputs
  • A “safe pair of hands” — self-sufficient, transparent, and not afraid to ask questions
  • Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills
  • Familiarity with software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Hevacomp, IES, and relevant design tools
Culture & Projects
  • Projects range from £4M–£5M in value, with recent work including high-profile commercial developments, healthcare refurbishments, and confidential international commissions.
  • The team is mech-heavy, with a strong electrical presence and remote flexibility for senior staff.
  • Culture is built on trust, technical excellence, and doing the right thing — no micromanagement, just shared accountability.
  • The business is future-focused, with succession planning underway and a commitment to sustainable growth.
