Position: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Ipswich, UK Salary:

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a collaborative and forward-thinking building services team. This role offers the opportunity to lead mechanical design across a diverse range of public and private sector projects, delivering sustainable and technically robust solutions from concept through to completion.

️ Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and specification of mechanical building services systems including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water services
  • Deliver projects through RIBA Stages 1–6, ensuring compliance with current regulations and best practices
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines (electrical, architectural, structural) and external stakeholders (clients, contractors, consultants)
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians within the team
  • Attend client meetings, design reviews, and site inspections as required
  • Contribute to fee proposals, resource planning, and project programming
  • Ensure designs are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high technical standard
  • Support the development of low-carbon and energy-efficient design strategies

Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered or working toward CEng status with a relevant institution (e.g., CIBSE, IMechE)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical building services design
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and design codes
  • Proficient in designing software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, and IES/TAS
  • Experience working on education, healthcare, residential, or public sector projects is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills
