A thriving multi-academy trust in North Manchester is looking for a Senior IT Engineer to join the team.

Your new company

This multi-academy trust has a strong presence in Greater Manchester, with a particular focus in North Manchester and, due to recent significant growth, as well as further expansion plans, they are looking to appoint a Senior IT Engineer/2nd Line Engineer to join their team. The trust has recently grown to over 10 schools, with upcoming growth for the next few years taking them to over 50 schools across Greater Manchester, and it is therefore important that the right individuals are appointed to facilitate this growth and ensure the infrastructure enables high performance. From an IT perspective, the Head of IT leads the team strategically ensuring a high level of service is provided, with the Service Desk Manager working closely with them to ensure service delivery to schools across the trust. Due to additional schools joining the trust and following the appointment of field-based IT technicians, they have created a new role and are looking to appoint a Senior IT Engineer/2nd Line Engineer to join this well established and high-performing team. The wider trust has an excellent reputation for the support and development of staff, as well as the friendly and welcoming environment, and they therefore come recommended as an employer of choice in the education sector in Manchester.

Your new role

Reporting to the Service Desk Manager, you will be responsible for providing 2nd line support to the service desk, as well as providing technical support to central colleagues, ensuring excellent service delivery at all times. This support will be both on site and remotely, therefore you will be required to visit other sites in the trust as well as the head office. The technical support will include supporting 1st line and field based engineers, handling escalated issues to ensure a successful resolution, liaising with 3rd party vendors when required around bespoke technologies and identifying any improvements which can be made. You will also be required to document support activities including troubleshooting steps, resolutions and ensuring tickets are up-to-date. In addition, you will support the wider trust with the delivery of IT projects and overall contribute to the success of the service desk.

What you'll need to succeed

In order to be successful in securing this position, you must possess significant IT support experience working in the education sector, ideally having recently worked in a 2nd line position supporting either first line or field-based technicians. Experience in education working in a school, trust or college would be advantageous, and you must have strong communication skills and the ability to provide a high level of customer service at all times. Knowledge of Windows, macOS and school IT systems/technologies will be essential. You will have a proactive and enthusiastic approach to your work, with the desire to work for a thriving organisation where your career will continue to develop and further develop your skills and knowledge.

What you'll get in return

In return, you will be paid a competitive salary of £35,000 - £45,000 dependent on experience, and you will be joining a growing trust where you will have the opportunity to experience further career progression as well develop your skills. The trust also offers an excellent benefits package which includes 28 days holiday (plus bank), rising to 33, free on-site parking, gym access and a local government pension scheme. This is an exciting time to join a trust during a period of growth where you will become an integral part of the success story.
