Their work plays a critical role in enabling vital schemes such as renewable energy developments, water and energy security projects, digital infrastructure expansion, transport upgrades, and other nationally significant infrastructure initiatives.
Your new role
As an Environmental Planner, you will take a senior position within the Environmental & Planning team, leading or managing a small group of specialists and contributing to a wide range of complex and high‑profile projects. You will support new capital schemes, development appraisals and the securing of planning consents across multiple utilities and infrastructure sectors.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading or managing a small team delivering environmental planning services, including feasibility assessments, screening, scoping and coordination of projects with varying levels of environmental sensitivity.
- Preparing and reviewing planning applications, technical reports and statutory submissions aligned with UK legislation, guidance and planning policy.
- Building strong working relationships with clients, consultants, technical specialists and Local Authority planning officers, attending key meetings and site visits as required.
- Taking ownership of project delivery, ensuring deadlines and client objectives are met, while driving continuous improvement across processes and outputs.
- Supporting wider business development, contributing expert insight on complex cases, and identifying opportunities for service enhancements.
What you'll need to succeed
- A degree in a relevant field
- Significant UK environmental planning experience at Senior or Principal level, ideally with exposure to utilities, infrastructure or environmental planning.
- Strong leadership capability with experience managing small teams or specialist workstreams.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence liaising with clients, stakeholders and Local Authorities.
- A proactive, solutions‑focused approach with the ability to manage complex, multi‑disciplinary projects.
