You’ll be joining a well-established consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across the infrastructure and environmental sectors. The organisation is committed to improving communities through responsible design and environmental stewardship, working on high-profile projects that shape the future of transport, energy, and urban development.
The environmental team is made up of passionate professionals who collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions. With a focus on continuous improvement, the company fosters a culture of learning, inclusion, and technical excellence. You’ll be part of a supportive environment where your ideas are valued, your expertise is recognised, and your career can thrive.
Whether you're contributing to nationally significant infrastructure schemes or helping local authorities meet environmental goals, your work will have a meaningful impact.
Your new role
As a Senior Environmental Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in the planning and delivery of environmental services for major infrastructure projects, particularly within the transport sector. You will be responsible for leading environmental assessments, including the preparation of scoping reports, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and other technical documentation.
You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams—such as highways, drainage, geotechnical, and structural engineers—to ensure environmental considerations are integrated into project design and delivery. Your expertise will span a wide range of environmental topics including biodiversity, landscape and visual impact, cultural heritage, climate change, waste and materials, and population and human health.
Key aspects of your role will include:
- Project Leadership: Managing environmental inputs across multiple projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
- Technical Oversight: Reviewing and authoring environmental reports and assessments in line with UK legislation and industry standards.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaising with statutory bodies such as Natural England, the Environment Agency, and local authorities to support project approvals and compliance.
- Team Development: Line managing junior consultants, providing mentoring and technical guidance to support their growth.
- Site Work: Conducting site visits and inspections to inform environmental design and mitigation strategies.
- Business Development: Supporting bid preparation and contributing to the growth of the environmental team through forecasting and client engagement.
This role offers the opportunity to influence the environmental outcomes of nationally significant infrastructure projects while developing your leadership and technical expertise in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
What you'll need to succeed
- A degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
- At least 6 years’ experience in environmental consultancy.
- Strong knowledge of DMRB topics and UK environmental legislation.
- Experience managing environmental inputs for infrastructure projects.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (or working towards it).
What you'll get in return
- Competitive salary - £40,000 - £50,000 DOE
- Flexible working options including hybrid, remote, and part-time arrangements to support work-life balance.
- Career development support through structured mentoring, training opportunities, and recognition for professional achievements and qualifications.
- Health and wellbeing initiatives such as access to mental health support, wellbeing ambassadors, and employee assistance programmes.
- Community engagement opportunities, including paid volunteering days and support for local environmental and social initiatives.
- Competitive pension scheme with employer contributions and options for additional voluntary contributions.
- Generous holiday entitlement, with the option to buy or sell annual leave to suit your personal needs.
- Access to a flexible benefits platform, offering discounts on retail, travel, and leisure, as well as schemes like cycle-to-work and tech purchase plans.
- Inclusive and supportive culture, with active networks for diversity, sustainability, and professional development.
