Hays is working with a global consultancy that consists of designers, engineers and technical specialists that cover a wide range of projects from major infrastructure, transport, offshore wind farms and many more.

Your new role

  • Act as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations, leading on health & safety risk management throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Provide expert guidance to design teams, project managers, and stakeholders on integrating health and safety considerations into design decisions.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor project-specific CDM strategies, ensuring legal compliance and best practice.
  • Coordinate design risk reviews and ensure hazards are identified, eliminated, or controlled effectively.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure health and safety objectives are achieved.
  • Prepare and maintain pre-construction information and health & safety files.
  • Deliver training, workshops, and mentoring to enhance CDM awareness and capability across project teams.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture, driving innovation and continuous improvement in design risk management.

What you'll need to succeed

  • NEBOSH Construction or equivalent
  • Chartered membership of IOSH or equivalent professional body (CMaPS)
  • Extensive experience acting as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations on complex, large-scale projects.
  • Proven ability to influence design outcomes and manage risk in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence to advise at senior levels.
  • Experience in developing and implementing health and safety management systems within design-led projects.
