Hays are working with a global leading design and architecture firm that is involved with a wide range of significant projects which include some of the most prestigious buildings in England. Projects range from newbuilds, redevelopments, large commercial fitouts, sports stadiums and many more.

Your new role

You will lead the delivery of Principal Designer duties across a diverse portfolio of projects, ensuring health and safety is implemented throughout the design process. You will play a key part in the team, supporting the director and training/mentoring junior members of the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as Principal Designer under CDM 2015 regulations, managing design risk from concept to completion.
  • Compile and review significant hazard and risk registers, design risk management and PCI Info pack and be able to work effectively with people at all levels and from all backgrounds.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and clients to influence safe design outcomes.
  • Prepare and maintain pre-construction information and health and safety files.
  • Lead design risk workshops and provide expert guidance to project teams.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and best practice standards.
  • Improve approach, process and outcomes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication where you will liaise with senior stakeholders.

What you'll need to succeed

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrable experience in a Principal Designer role within the built environment.
  • Strong understanding of CDM 2015 and design risk management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Membership of APS or similar professional body is desirable.
