Senior Category Manager | £56k - £71k | Bristol | Hybrid | 12-18 Month FTC

Are you an experienced procurement professional with a passion for delivering strategic value in complex environments? We’re partnered with a Public Sector organisation to recruit a Senior Category Manager to lead procurement activities within the defence sector, covering goods and services across large-scale projects. This is a 12-18 month fixed term contract to support an on-going project.


Your new role

As a Senior Category Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping procurement strategies and managing high-profile projects. Acting as a trusted advisor and deputy to senior leadership, you’ll ensure compliance, optimise supplier performance, and deliver best value solutions. This is a strategic position where you’ll influence cultural change, mentor team members, and collaborate with key stakeholders to achieve organisational goals.

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies for complex, regulated projects.
  • Lead negotiations and manage supplier relationships to ensure value for money.
  • Provide expert advice on procurement lifecycle and risk management.
  • Act as procurement lead on major defence projects, ensuring delivery to time, cost, and quality standards.
  • Drive process improvements and promote best practice across the organisation.
  • Deputise for senior leadership when required and support strategic decision-making.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Essential:
    • Active Security Clearance (SC) or eligibility to obtain this
    • MCIPS qualification or equivalent commercial experience.
    • Strong knowledge of public sector defence procurement.
    • Expert in public procurement regulations (PCR15 / PA23)
    • Proven experience as a Category Manager in complex environments.
    • Excellent commercial, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Desirable:
    • Experience in both public and private sectors.
    • Project management expertise.
    • Knowledge of sustainable procurement practices.

What you'll get in return

  • A salary between £56,000 - £71,000 dependent on experience

  • Hybrid working in Bristol (2 days in office per week)
