Electrical Safety Manager / Senior AP - Reactor Project - N Wales
Role Summary
An opportunity is available for an experienced Electrical Safety Manager to provide site‑wide authority and assurance over the safe control of electrical systems. The role acts as the senior point of accountability for electrical safety, ensuring that high‑ and low‑voltage systems are operated, isolated, and re‑energised in accordance with established site rules and safe systems of work.
The position requires close coordination with operations, engineering teams, contractors, and the permit office to ensure electrical activities are planned, controlled, and executed safely, with a strong emphasis on risk prevention and procedural compliance.
Key Duties
- Fulfil the role of Senior Authorised Person (Electrical), exercising authority for electrical isolations, earthing, switching, and re‑energisation in line with site safety rules.
- Plan and manage electrical isolation and switching activities, coordinating with construction, operations, and control‑of‑work functions.
- Provide technical oversight and approval of electrical content within permits to work, RAMS, isolation plans, and switching schedules.
- Support the permit office by contributing to the issue, suspension, and close‑out of permits, ensuring effective management of electrical and non‑electrical interfaces.
- Monitor contractor performance against electrical safety standards, site rules, and permit conditions through inspections, audits, and ongoing assurance.
- Lead or support the investigation of electrical incidents, near misses, and non‑conformances, contributing to lessons learned and continuous improvement actions.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential- Current or previously held Senior Authorised Person (SAP) authorisation for HV and/or LV electrical systems.
- Strong practical knowledge of electrical safety rules, including isolation, lock‑off, earthing, and controlled energisation.
- Proven capability in interpreting electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and switching schedules.
- Clear commitment to safety leadership, procedural discipline, and effective risk management.
- Experience operating within a permit‑to‑work or control‑of‑work environment.
- Background in nuclear, high‑hazard, or heavily regulated industries.
- Previous involvement with a permit office or control‑of‑work team.
- Knowledge of temporary electrical installations associated with construction, demolition, or temporary works.
Qualifications
- Recognised electrical qualifications and membership of a relevant professional body.
- IOSH or NEBOSH Managing Safely
- CSCS Gold Supervisor Card
- Training in Control and Supervision of Safe Systems of Work (SSoW)
