A leading Top 20 accountancy practice in Manchester city centre is seeking an experienced Senior Audit Manager to join their expanding public sector audit team. This is an exceptional opportunity for an audit professional with strong experience in public sector engagements who is ready to step into a senior leadership role within a high‑performing, people‑focused firm renowned for quality, innovation and client service.

Your new role
As Senior Audit Manager, you will oversee a significant portfolio of public sector clients, including local authorities, NHS bodies, housing associations, charities and other government‑funded organisations. You’ll lead complex assignments, support teams in delivering high‑quality audits and contribute to the strategic development of the firm’s public sector offering.
As Senior Audit Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Leading and managing a diverse portfolio of public sector audit engagements
  • Building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders within local government and other public bodies
  • Overseeing audit planning, fieldwork and completion to ensure high‑quality outputs
  • Providing technical expertise on complex public sector accounting and audit matters
  • Managing and developing teams, providing coaching, feedback and performance support
  • Ensuring compliance with professional standards, regulatory requirements and internal quality procedures
  • Supporting tenders, proposals and wider business development activity
  • Contributing to the strategic direction and growth of the public sector audit team
What you'll need to succeed
  • ACA / ACCA qualification (or equivalent)
  • Significant post‑qualification experience within practice, including public sector audits
  • Strong understanding of public sector frameworks, such as CIPFA and sector‑specific regulatory requirements
  • A proven ability to lead complex engagements and deliver high‑quality work
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a passion for developing others
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to identify service opportunities
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused approach
