SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant Job in Wellington
Hays Education is working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in Wellington that is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is a full-time, long-term temporary position supporting a pupil with additional educational needs on a 1:1 basis. The school is looking for an individual who is patient, nurturing and committed to helping children achieve their full potential both academically and socially.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone with SEND experience looking to make a meaningful impact within a supportive school environment.
Your New Role
As a SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with additional needs
- Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil's individual requirements
- Support the child's emotional, social and academic development
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals
- Promote inclusion and encourage positive engagement in learning
- Help create a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Experience working with children, ideally within a school setting
- Previous SEND experience is highly desirable
- A patient, caring and resilient approach
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to remain calm and adaptable in different situations
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
