Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Warrington-based two-form entry primary school as this school is actively seeking an experienced and qualified teaching assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a pupil in year three who has ASD, who is non-verbal with behavioural needs. This is an extremely rewarding long-term full-time role within a supportive mainstream primary school that is at the heart of its local community.
Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting a pupil in year 3 on a 1:1 basis, acting as their main point of contact throughout the school day and advocating for them as required. You will work in collaboration with the year 3 class teacher, SENCO and external professionals to provide consistent high-quality support, tailored to best suit your pupils' needs. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment
- Use Makaton and other communication strategies to aid in understanding
- Support SALT targets through daily reinforcement, repetition and practice
- Implementation of a myriad of positive behaviour strategies best suited to your pupils' response, i.e., brain breaks, movement breaks, sensory play, etc
- Accurately record and maintain progress including ECHP's and learning journeys
- Direct liaison with parents/guardians, including recognising key milestones
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, a minimum of 40 days referenceable classroom experience within the last 2 years, and:
- Be at least NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualified
- Experience supporting ASD
- Experience using Makaton and support SALT
- Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract
