Runcorn, SEMH resource provision. Full-time temporary contract starting September 2025.
Your new company
Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a Runcorn-based two-form entry primary school that is easily accessible via public transport as they are looking to appoint an experienced and reliable SEN teaching assistant within the KS1 resource base. Due to new pupil intake and continued funding, this school is looking to expand their SEN team and require an experienced teaching assistant to join their team on a full-time temporary basis. This is a full-time contract consisting of 32.5 hours per week, 8:30am - 3:30pm Monday to Friday.
Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting within a KS1 resource provision that offers holistic support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs. You will support the class teacher and other teaching assistants to offer a stimulating and engaging learning environment for new pupils by utilising an array of learning equipment and taking a pupil-centred approach to education, ensuring that all of your pupils' needs, both academic and SEN, are at the heart of all operations. As you will be working within a resource provision, you will be required to support all pupils on a 1:1 basis as required. The pupils you will be supporting will at times present complex challenging behaviours. This is not a personal attack but a coping mechanism learnt due to the environments that your pupils have come from. To ensure that all behaviours are managed effectively, you will implement an array of positive behaviour strategies, adapting accordingly to what your pupils respond best to. Typically, these will consist of distraction and de-escalation techniques, positive reinforcement, DOJO/reward charts, brain breaks, and utilisation of a sensory room. You will also offer bespoke interventions in key areas such as literacy, numeracy, reading and behaviour.
