Hays Recruitment is proud to announce that we have partnered with an outstanding specialist SEND school in Northwich that has a full primary cohort. This extremely inclusive and supportive school is looking for a reliable and motivated teaching assistant to join their team on a temporary to permanent basis from January. This is a long-term full-time contract that will lead to permanent employment for the right individual.

In this school you will be joining the EYFS and KS1 cohort to plan, prepare and deliver bespoke interventions in key areas such as SALT and regulation strategies on a timetabled basis. You will work in collaboration with class teachers and external professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and education psychologists to ensure that each pupil's ECHP, personality and requirements are met, and that the needs of the pupils are at the heart of all operations. As you will be supporting young learners with an array of profound SEN such as ASD, non-verbal, PMLD, etc you will be required to take a pupil-centred approach to learning, as each pupil will respond differently to your approach. Other core duties will include:
  • Use of Makaton, PECs, and other visual references to aid in communication
  • Positive behaviour strategies: sensory play/therapy, sensory rooms, regulation strategies, etc
  • Physical stimulation
  • Pupil-led curriculum delivery
  • Liaison with SENCO and parents/guardians on pupil progress and further requirements
  • Personal/intimate care


What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days referenceable experience supporting children with complex needs within a residential or classroom environment within the last 2 years, and:

  • Be able to commit to a full-time contract (32.5 hours per week)
  • Experience using Makaton, PECs and other communicative aids
  • Be comfortable aiding in personal care
