Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Widnes-based 3-form entry primary school that is easily accessible via public transport as they are looking to appoint a motivated, experienced and qualified teaching assistant for a full-time temporary contract starting in September 2025 that will last the full academic year. This is an extremely supportive and welcoming school that has previously offered permanent contracts to temporary members of staff.


Your new role

As a teaching assistant at this school, you will be based within an KS2 resource provision, supporting a small group of pupils with SEN and individual EHCP's on a 1:1 and small group basis. The pupils within your new class have a variety of needs, the majority having ASD with a number having a dual diagnosis such as ADHD, SEMH, and speech impediments. You will work alongside the class teacher and teaching assistants to promote an safe, engaging and stimulating learning environment for new pupils by utilising an array of learning equipment and associating learning materials with pupils' key interests, which will in turn aid in building strong constructive relationships within the classroom. As you will be supporting pupils with SEN you will take a pupil-centred approach to their learning, enabling you to ensure that their individual academic and EHCP needs are at the heart of operations. Other duties will include but may not be limited to:

  • Interventions in core subjects and key areas including behavioural and speech and language
  • Implementing positive behaviour strategies including brain breaks, movement breaks, sensory circuits and DOJO/reward charts
  • Direct liaison with the SENCO and parents/guardians

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent referenceable classroom experience, as well as:

  • Experience supporting SEN
  • Experience delivering speech and behavioural interventions
  • An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification
