SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist Primary Setting
Location: Trafford, Greater Manchester
Salary: £85–£95 per day (dependent on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time, Long-term
Start Date: September 2025

Your New Company
Hays Education are working in partnership with a well-regarded specialist primary school in Trafford that caters for children aged 2–11 with a range of complex learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech and language difficulties, sensory processing needs, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges. The school is purpose-built with outstanding facilities, including sensory rooms, therapy spaces, and outdoor learning environments. It is known for its nurturing ethos, child-centred approach, and strong multidisciplinary team that includes therapists, specialist teachers, and support staff.

Your New Job
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with additional needs to access learning and develop key life skills. You will work closely with class teachers and therapists to deliver tailored interventions, provide 1:1 and small group support, and help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. This is a full-time, long-term role starting in September 2025, with the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.

What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly ASC and communication difficulties
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A willingness to support personal care and sensory needs where required
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate are desirable but not essential
  • A DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one through Hays
