Ellesmere Port. Year 1, 1:1 support complex ASD and personal care. Full-time temporary contract.

Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a two-form entry primary school in Ellesmere Port that is at the heart of its local community, as they are looking to appoint a dedicated and reliable teaching assistant to support a pupil within a year 1 class that has complex SEN. This is a full-time long-term contract where you will be acting as the main point of contact and advocate for a pupil with profound ASD. This is an extremely supportive and welcoming school that are looking to initially appoint someone for a temporary contract with the opportunity to join the school on a permanent basis for the correct individual.

Your new role

In your new role as a teaching assistant, you will be offering comprehensive 1:1 support to a pupil with a mixed diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal. You will be their main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate, walking them back to their grown-up at the end of the day and liaising with their guardian. You will offer inclusive support as the child is mainly supported within the main class at a separate table. Although your pupil is non-verbal, they are an extremely effective communicator, using touch and noise to communicate what they want/need. You will deliver compressive speech and language support by using PECs, Makaton and associative materials. Due to their needs, they will at times present behavioural needs and become extremely vocal. This is not a personal attack but a show of communication. They also require personal care.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, recent referenceable experience supporting complex needs, and:

  • Experience supporting children with SEND is advantageous
  • Experience using Makaton, PECs and other communicative strategies
  • Be comfortable completing personal/intimate care requirements
  • Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract for continuity consisting of 32.5 hours per week

What you'll get in return

If you are successful in your application, you will receive the full support, dedication and guidance of an experienced DfE accredited recruitment consultant, as well as a wide range of benefits that include:

  • Free training
  • Upfront cost of DBS covered
  • Long-term contract
  • Full holiday entitlement
  • Company pension scheme
  • Competitive rate of pay
  • Long-term contract
  • Opportunity to join the school on a permanent basis
  • Access to exclusive vacancies
  • Refer a Friend scheme
