Ellesmere Port. Year 1 1:1 ASD, non-verbal and intimate care. Long-term full-time after half-term.

Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a two-form entry mainstream primary school in Ellesmere Port as they are looking to appoint a motivated and experienced SEN teaching assistant to support a year 1 pupil that will be joining the school after the October half-term. This is an extremely welcoming and supportive school that requires a teaching assistant for a full-time temporary contract that will last the full academic year (subject to funding).

Your new role

As a teaching assistant within this school, you will play an integral part of the year 1 teaching team, delivering inclusive 1:1 support to a year 1 pupil with a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal. You will deliver a bespoke curriculum evenly split between resource provision and the year 1 class, integrating them into new pupil groups to promote social development and inclusion as well as meeting their EHCP requirements. As your pupil is non-verbal, you will take the lead on speech and language support, utilising emotion cards, PECs, phonics and Makaton to promote speech. Due to their diagnosis, they may at times present challenging behaviours. Their behaviour is not physical, but they can become vocal and erratic. To promote positive behaviours, you will implement an array of positive behaviour strategies, including sensory play/therapy, movement breaks and taking them to the sensory room to give time to regulate. The school have also been fully transparent, stating that your pupil may require support with intimate care.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, recent referenceable experience supporting children with complex needs, and:

  • Experience working with ASD and non-verbal
  • Experience using Makaton is highly advantegous
  • Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract consisting of 32.5 hours per week

What you'll get in return

If you are successful in your application, you will receive the full support, dedication and guidance of a senior DfE accredited recruitment consultant, as well as a wide range of benefits, that include:

  • Free training
  • Upfront cost of DBS covered
  • Long-term contract
  • Competitive rate of pay
  • Full holiday entitlement
  • Company pension scheme
  • Access to exclusive vacancies
  • Refer a Friend scheme
