Chester. SEN within reception class, ASD and non-verbal. Long-term full-time contract.

Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Chester-based two-form entry primary school that is easily accessible via public transport as they are looking to appoint a motivated and experienced SEN teaching assistant to support a pupil that will be joining the reception class. This is a full-time, long-term position where you will be supporting a young male pupil with a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal.

Your new role

As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting a young male pupil with a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal. You will meet them at the school gate and walk them back to their grown-up at the end of the school day. You will act as their main point of contact throughout the school day and integrate new structures into their routine. The child you will be supporting is extremely loving but has struggled previously to integrate into pupil groups and to access the curriculum due to their needs. To ensure that they reach their full academic potential, you will take the lead on specific speech and language interventions, utilising PEC cards, Makaton and emotion cards to support. He will also, at times, present challenging behaviour. Although not violent, he can become extremely loud and disruptive. This is not a personal attack against other pupils or staff members, but how he initially communicates something; being upset, deregulated, overstimulated, etc. To ensure that this happens in a safe environment, you will implement an array of positive behaviour strategies that you feel he will respond well to, such as bucket therapy, sensory play, movement breaks, etc. You will also assist with his personal/intimate care.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days referenceable SEN experience within the last two years, as well as:

  • Experience delivering specific speech and language interactions (Makaton and PECs are advantageous)
  • Be comfortable completing personal/intimate care (nappy changing and assisted toileting)
  • Be able to commit to a full-time contract (32.5 hours per week)

What you'll get in return

If you are successful in your application, you will receive the full support, dedication and guidance of a senior DfE accredited recruitment consultant as well as a wide range of amazing benefits, that include:

  • Free training
  • Upfront cost of DBS covered
  • Competitive rate of pay
  • Full holiday entitlement
  • Company pension scheme
  • Onsite parking
  • Long-term contract
  • Access to exclusive vacancies
  • Refer a Friend scheme
