SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School, Sefton (ASAP Start)

A welcoming primary school in Sefton is seeking a caring, reliable, and skilled SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with additional needs and help them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including communication, behavioural, and learning needs.
  • Deliver 1:1 and small‑group interventions to help pupils access the curriculum.
  • Assist the class teacher in adapting learning activities and resources.
  • Help maintain an inclusive, positive and safe classroom environment.
  • Work closely with the SENCO, teaching staff, and external professionals to implement support plans.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour across the school day.

Experience Needed
  • Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting.
  • Previous experience supporting pupils with SEN, such as ASD, ADHD, speech & language needs, or social/ emotional difficulties (highly desirable).
  • Ability to follow structured routines, use support strategies, and manage behaviour calmly and confidently.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build supportive relationships with pupils.

Qualifications
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (CACHE/NCFE or equivalent).
  • GCSE English & Maths (or equivalent).
  • A ‘full and relevant’ Early Years/TA qualification if working within EYFS ratios.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
