SEN Teaching Assistant (Temporary)

Role Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school environment on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will work closely with students who have a range of special educational needs, supporting their learning, social development, and emotional wellbeing both in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored support to students with SEN, including those with autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and learning disabilities.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with subject teachers and the SENCO to adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Support students during lessons, break times, and transitions between activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence and confidence in students.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to review meetings as required.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
Person Specification
  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, ideally within a secondary school setting.
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEN-specific training) are desirable but not essential.
Additional Information
This is a temporary role, with potential for extension depending on school needs. Enhanced DBS clearance will be required prior to appointment. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
