Runcorn. SEN within mainstream: ASD and non-verbal. Long-term full-time temporary contract.

Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a two-form entry primary school in Runcorn that is easily accessible via public transport as they have a pupil with an EHCP joining the reception class after half-term. This is an extremely welcoming and supportive school that requires a teaching assistant to support a pupil with a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal. This pupil does not have capacity due to their needs and, as such, isn't able to access the curriculum.

Your new role

In your new role as a teaching assistant, you will be supporting a pupil within the reception class on a 1:1 basis, playing an integral part in their education. The pupil you will be supporting has a dual diagnosis of ASD and is non-verbal. Due to their needs, they are not able to access the curriculum. You will take a pupil-led approach to their education, supporting them in areas where they are able to access and deliver speech and language support (including the use of Makaton, PECs, and other communicative tools). Due to this pupils' needs, they will at times present "challenging behaviours", i.e., becoming extremely vocal, grabbing, etc. This is not a personal attack, this is a form of their communication. You will also assist with personal care.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, recent referenceable experience supporting complex and profound needs, and:

  • Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract
  • Be comfortable completing personal care
  • Have experience delivering speech and language support, including the use of Makaton

What you'll get in return

If you are successful in your application, you will receive the full support, dedication and guidance of a senior DfE accredited recruitment consultant, as well as a wide range of benefits, that include:

  • Free training
  • Upfront cost of DBS covered
  • Long-term contract
  • Competitive rate of pay
  • Full holiday entitlement
  • Company pension scheme
  • Access to exclusive vacancies
  • Refer a Friend scheme
