SEN Teaching Assistant – MLD / SLD

Your new school

We are working with a number of welcoming and inclusive schools across Leicester that specialise in supporting pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).

These schools offer highly supportive environments with specialist resources, smaller class sizes, and a focus on functional skills, independence, and personalised learning.

Your new role

In this role, you will support pupils with a range of learning needs in both classroom and specialist settings. You will work closely with teachers and therapists to provide tailored support that enables pupils to access learning and develop essential life skills.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting pupils with learning activities and communication needs
  • Assisting with personal care where required
  • Using visual aids, sensory strategies, and structured routines
  • Encouraging independence and engagement in learning
  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience working with MLD, SLD or additional needs (desirable but not essential)
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic personality
  • Confidence supporting pupils with complex needs
  • A willingness to assist with personal care if required
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
