A supportive Wolverhampton school is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a child with attachment difficulties and emotional needs.
This 1:1 Teaching Assistant role is due to start in September, with the opportunity for an earlier start for candidates who are available sooner. The role would suit someone experienced in attachment, SEMH, emotional regulation, or trauma‑informed support, who understands the importance of consistency, trust, and relationship‑based practice.

SEN Teaching Assistant – Role Overview:
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide personalised support to help the pupil feel secure, engaged, and ready to learn.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing consistent 1:1 SEND support throughout the school day
- Supporting a child with attachment needs, emotional regulation difficulties, and anxiety
- Building a strong, trusting relationship through routine, reassurance, and positive interaction
- Supporting learning activities and adapting them to the child’s emotional needs
- Using trauma‑informed and attachment‑aware approaches
- Supporting behaviour through calm de‑escalation and clear, supportive boundaries
- Helping the pupil access learning and remain included within the classroom
- Supporting transitions between lessons, activities, and environments
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and pastoral team
- Recording observations and contributing to support strategies and progress reviews
SEN Teaching Assistant – Requirements:
- Experience supporting children or young people, ideally with attachment needs, SEMH, trauma, or emotional difficulties
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Confidence working in a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant role
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable pupils
- Teaching Assistant qualifications (Level 2 or Level 3) are desirable but not essential
