Your new company

Hays Education are currently working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Lancaster to recruit an experienced SEN Specialist Teaching Assistant. This is a long-term opportunity starting after Easter and running through until the end of the summer term.

Your new role

In this role, you will be supporting pupils across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 on a 1:1 basis, working with students who have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will play a vital part in helping pupils access the curriculum and achieve their full potential by delivering tailored support in line with each student’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support both in and out of the classroom

  • Implementing strategies outlined in EHCPs

  • Supporting pupils with academic tasks, emotional regulation and engagement

  • Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals

  • Promoting a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND (school-based experience preferred)

  • A good understanding of EHCPs and differentiated support strategies

  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach

  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff

  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
