SEN Pastoral Manager
Hays Education are supporting an SEN School in Birmingham with recruiting for a temporary Pastoral Manager. This role is to start immediately, and the school require the cover till the end of the academic year and probably for the duration of the autumn term.
The details are as follows:
The School
- The school is located in north Birmingham and is a 10-minute drive from the city centre
- They describe themselves as a focussed and dedicated school who have young people at the centre of their ethos
- The school caters for children at KS4 level with social, emotional and mental health challenges (SEMH)
The school will employ the suitable person Monday to Friday, 8.30 am – 3.30 pm on a term-time only time sheet basis
The Role
- You will be working with pupils who have a high level of special needs linked with SEMH.
This will include pupils who are highly vulnerable and will quite often have high-level safeguarding issues in their backgrounds - You will be proactively responsible during the school day for working with pupils that have had to come out of the classroom due to behaviour, and you will be supporting them by reflecting on the circumstances of their removal and enabling them to re-enter the classroom
- You will be actively involved in promoting positive behaviour, by building relationships of trust with pupils, in order that they may learn and thrive at the school
- Your role will also involve working with other members of staff, such as the Attendance Officer and the member of SLT responsible for pastoral needs, as well as communicating and working with parents and carers
The Candidate
- The successful candidate will have experience of working with children with challenging behaviour and SEMH
- You will be able to demonstrate the key competencies of working with children with SEMH and also de-escalation techniques – the school will consider people who have worked in children’s residential care or similar settings
- The school will support with training for candidates who may not have experience of working in these kinds of settings
- Hays Education will be able to obtain recent satisfactory references that reflect this experience
