About the School
This is a small, community special school for students with a primary need for Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. The school is committed to providing a nurturing, structured, and supportive environment where every young person can thrive and achieve their potential.

Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will work closely with students who have SEMH needs, supporting their learning, emotional wellbeing, and social development both in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small group support to students with SEMH needs, adapting approaches to meet their unique challenges.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals to ensure consistent support for students.
  • Support students during lessons, break times, and transitions, promoting positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Help create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to review meetings as required.
  • Encourage independence, resilience, and self-confidence in students.
Person Specification
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or other special educational needs, ideally within a school setting.
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to supporting students with complex needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEMH-specific training) are desirable but not essential.
Additional Information
This is a temporary role, with potential for extension depending on school needs. Enhanced DBS clearance will be required prior to appointment. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
