SEMH/SEND Teaching Assistant

Your new school

We are working in partnership with a school in Nottinghamshire who are looking for several SEMH Teaching Assistants to start ASAP.

The school is a unique, outdoor-based educational setting located in Nottinghamshire. The school specialises in supporting children and young people with complex needs who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and cannot be supported in mainstream settings. They use woodland and farm environments to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning experience.


Your new role

We are looking for compassionate, resilient, and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistants to join our team. You will work either 1:1 or in small groups (2–6 pupils) supporting students across Key Stages 2–5.

Key Responsibilities:
• Support students with a range of needs including SEMH, ASD, and attachment difficulties
• Assist with academic, sensory, and emotional development
• Help deliver a flexible, adapted curriculum in both indoor and outdoor settings
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students and staff
• Support with behaviour management and debriefing activities

What to Expect
• A typical day includes breakfast club, phonics, English, maths, sensory activities, and enrichment
• Outdoor learning is a core part of the curriculum
• Staff receive free breakfast and lunch
• All staff are trained in positive behaviour support and physical intervention (used only as a last resort)
• You’ll be part of a supportive team with radio communication and shared responsibilities


What you'll need to succeed

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEMH is highly desirable
• A calm, empathetic, and flexible approach
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• A valid Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

Dress Code
Smart casual and comfortable – trainers are allowed. Be prepared for muddy conditions due to outdoor activities.
