Hays Education is recruiting confident, resilient SEMH Primary Teachers to work within specialist SEMH schools, PRUs, and alternative provisions across Northamptonshire. This role is ideal for teachers who are skilled in behaviour management and passionate about supporting pupils who present with challenging behaviour, emotional dysregulation, and social difficulties.
Whether you’re an experienced SEMH teacher or an ECT with a strong behaviour and inclusion background, you’ll be supported to make a measurable impact while retaining flexibility in your working pattern.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver structured, engaging lessons aligned to pupils’ academic and behavioural needs
• Manage challenging behaviour using calm, consistent, and firm boundaries
• Implement behaviour support plans, risk assessments, and de‑escalation strategies
• Promote emotional regulation through clear routines, predictable expectations, and positive reinforcement
• Respond effectively to crisis situations while maintaining pupil and staff safety
• Maintain accurate behaviour records and report incidents in line with school policy
• Work closely with behaviour mentors, TAs, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
• Mark work and provide clear, achievable feedback
• Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns promptly to the DSL

✅ What We’re Looking For:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or ECT status
• Recent experience working with SEMH pupils, behavioural needs, or alternative provision
• Strong, confident behaviour management skills
• Experience using behaviour strategies such as restorative approaches, positive handling awareness, and trauma‑informed practice
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond proactively to escalation
• A consistent, authoritative, and professional classroom presence
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or ECT status
• Recent experience working with SEMH pupils, behavioural needs, or alternative provision
• Strong, confident behaviour management skills
• Experience using behaviour strategies such as restorative approaches, positive handling awareness, and trauma‑informed practice
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond proactively to escalation
