SEMH Learning Support Mentor Job Available at Secondary PRU in Manchester

Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs?

We are recruiting for a Learning Support Mentor to join a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Manchester on a full-time, term-time-only basis, starting immediately. In this role, you will work closely with students aged 11–16 who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. You will provide 1:1 and small group support, help implement behaviour strategies, and assist in delivering personalised learning plans. Your role will be vital in helping students re-engage with education and build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.

This well-established PRU in Manchester is known for its inclusive ethos, strong leadership, and multi-agency approach. The school provides a structured and nurturing environment for students facing a range of challenges, including trauma, behavioural difficulties, and special educational needs. Staff are committed to making a real difference in the lives of vulnerable young people. The school offers excellent training and development opportunities and is easily accessible from central Manchester and surrounding areas.

Key Skills/Experience
  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
  • Any relevant qualifications would be beneficial
  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach
  • Strong communication and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to build rapport and act as a positive role model
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training is desirable
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
