Hays Education are proud to be working with a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Wigan that is seeking to appoint a Science Technician from September. This part-time position offers a fantastic opportunity to join a successful Science Department on a long-term basis, supporting the delivery of engaging practical lessons across the curriculum.
Your new role
Working three days per week, you will play a vital role in ensuring science lessons run smoothly by preparing equipment, materials and resources for practical activities. You will work closely with teaching staff to maintain safe, organised and well-equipped laboratories, helping to create a positive learning experience for pupils.
Key duties will include:
Preparing apparatus, chemicals and resources for Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons.
Organising and setting up practical experiments in line with lesson requirements.
Maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring resources are clean, safe and ready for use.
Managing stock levels and assisting with the ordering of equipment and consumables.
Ensuring compliance with all health and safety procedures within laboratories and preparation areas.
Carrying out routine checks on equipment and reporting any faults or repairs required.
Supporting departmental administration, including maintaining inventories and records.
Assisting teaching staff with the smooth day-to-day operation of the Science Department.
What you'll need to succeed
Previous experience working in a Science Technician, Laboratory Technician or similar support role.
A scientific background, either through education or employment.
A good understanding of laboratory health and safety practices.
Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
The ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to teamwork.
An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one through Hays.
