Science Supply Teacher - Bristol

About the role

Hays Education is recruiting Qualified Science Teachers (QTS) to work on a supply basis across a range of secondary schools in Bristol and the surrounding areas. We are seeking enthusiastic teachers specialising in Biology, Chemistry or Physics who can deliver high‑quality lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4. Opportunities for KS5 teaching are available in some placements.

We support schools with:
  • Day‑to‑day Science cover
  • Short‑term block work
  • Long‑term Science roles, including Easter and September starts

What you'll be doing

As a Science Supply Teacher, you will:
  • Teach Biology, Chemistry, Physics or general Science across KS3–KS4
  • Deliver engaging practical and theory lessons
  • Maintain a safe, well‑managed classroom environment
  • Follow schemes of work and ensure consistency for students
  • Adapt quickly to different schools, labs and departmental processes
  • Support student progress, curiosity and scientific thinking
Long‑term placements may include planning, marking, assessments and contributing to department life.


What you'll need to succeed

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Strong subject knowledge in Science (any discipline)
  • Experience teaching in a UK secondary school (ECT placements accepted)
  • Strong behaviour management and confident practical lesson delivery
  • The right to work in the UK
  • An Enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain one
  • A flexible, positive approach to supply work
  • ECTs encouraged to apply
