Wirral school looking for a full-time caretaker starting in October or asap.

Your new company

Hays Education are working with a primary school based in Wallasey, Wirral, who are looking for a school caretaker starting asap to cover long-term sickness of the current post holder.


Your new role

This school caretaker job is full-time, term time only. Hours are 7.30–3.30 Monday–Thursday and 7.30–4.30 Friday.

Working closely with the business manager, as the sole school caretaker in the school, your duties will include:
  • Opening school in the morning, including gates and checking the yard
  • Supporting the cleaners as required and hoovering all stairs before the children arrive; low level window cleaning
  • Carry out minor repairs
  • General portage
  • Adhere to Health & Safety regulations and undertake regular checks
  • Deal with enquires from staff, students, parents, officers and members of the public
  • Check toilets regularly to ensure they are in working order and well stocked with soap, toilet paper etc.
  • Regularly check the school building and grounds, litter picking, gutter clearing, and ensure there are no trespassers or unauthorised parking
  • Empty litter and ensure bin points are clear
  • Take delivery of stock and materials

What you'll need to succeed

For this school caretaker post, you will need prior experience in a maintenance role, with previous keyholder responsibility also being an advantage. You will be comfortable working closely to Health & Safety and COSHH regulations and carrying out general maintenance within a busy environment.


Before being placed into this school caretaker job, you will need to complete an enhanced DBS check.
