Legal Risk & Compliance Manager, Solicitors, Standards, Ethics, Regulation, GDPR, Bath, Bristol, Oxford

Your new company
A large UK legal firm offers hybrid working to a Risk and Compliance Specialist who comes from a Legal firm background. Initially, 3 days a week in the office and 2 working from home – reducing to 2 days in the office and 3 from home after 4 months.
This is a broad-based Compliance role across all areas of a Legal firm's Risk and Compliance remit.

Your new role
As a Risk and Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Providing expert advice on complex risk and compliance matters, including those relating to professional standards, ethics, regulatory compliance, data protection and conflict of interest.
  • Assisting in promoting and embedding a positive culture of compliance within the firm; being an ambassador for the Risk Team
  • Owning and managing risk and compliance-related projects
  • Working in partnership with divisional leads and business leads to advise on the risk and compliance aspects of new business initiatives
  • Producing and monitoring risk and compliance data to identify strengths and weaknesses in risk and compliance processes
  • Assisting with updating the firm’s precedent documents such as terms of business, engagement letters and supporting documentation
  • Identifying and implementing operational efficiencies in risk and compliance processes
  • Producing and updating concise and professional policies, bulletins, communications and training materials to improve risk and compliance knowledge across the firm
  • Creating and delivering bespoke training programmes for each division (Commercial; Private Client; Injury) on risk and compliance matters
  • Monitoring and interpreting changes in legal and regulatory requirements affecting the operation of the firm
  • Leading on the escalation of higher risk matters to the Risk Committee where required, including drafting detailed and accurate briefing notes on complex topics.

What you'll need to succeed
  • You must have several years' experience working in a broad-ranging compliance role within a UK legal firm. (I am afraid that candidates coming from other sectors of the market or with experience relating only to AML will not be considered!)
  • You will have detailed knowledge of the relevant laws, regulations and codes of conduct applicable to the operation of a law firm.
  • You will have excellent communication and report-writing skills and, ideally, some experience in coaching and team management.

What you'll get in return
Salary £65-70000, plus 26 days' holiday and a broad-ranging benefits package.
Flexible working options available – Initially 3 days a week in the office and 2 working from home – reducing to 2 days a week in the office and 3 days from home after 4 months' employment.
