Public Sector Reward Director vacancy in Leeds

Your new company

A central UK organisation with a significant national footprint is seeking an accomplished reward specialist to oversee and shape remuneration across a varied portfolio of high‑profile UK entities. This influential position provides a unique platform to guide senior reward decisions and support organisations that play a critical role in delivering national priorities.

Your new role

This is a rare career move for a seasoned reward professional who is keen to impact multiple organisations as well as acting internally in a typical generalist reward fashion. This job could suit someone from a consultancy or financial service sector background looking to transition from the private sector into a meaningful public sector aligned environment. The role combines strategic advisory work, complex stakeholder management, and the opportunity to influence reward frameworks.

Reward Strategy & Advisory
  • Provide expert guidance on senior remuneration proposals, including sensitive and high‑profile cases.
  • Develop and enhance reward frameworks, structures, and incentive plans across multiple organisations.
  • Interpret and apply relevant pay rules to ensure alignment with governance expectations and value for money.
Stakeholder Leadership
  • Build trusted relationships with senior HR leaders, external consultants, and policy stakeholders.
  • Influence and align reward approaches across a wide range of organisations.
Operational & Technical Delivery
  • Lead benchmarking exercises, job evaluation processes, and grading structure reviews.
  • Produce high‑quality written reports and recommendations for senior executives and governance boards.
  • Monitor market trends, identifying risks and opportunities in both public and private sector reward landscapes.
Team Development & Collaboration
  • Support, coach, and mentor junior team members within a broader governance setting.
  • Work closely with colleagues across multiple functions to drive consistency and best practice.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Background in senior reward roles, ideally including consultancy or multi‑organisation advisory work.
  • Strong expertise in remuneration policy, benchmarking methodologies, and incentive plan design.
  • Ability to work independently, manage complex workloads, and deliver high‑quality outputs at pace.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience advising Remuneration Committees or senior boards.
  • Ideally, a working knowledge of public‑sector pay frameworks—or a willingness to develop this quickly.
  • Experience contributing to or leading multi‑disciplinary teams, including supporting junior colleagues.
What you'll get in return
A very competitive basic salary, bonus opportunity, pension and hybrid working 2 or 3 days from home per week.
