Research Support Officer – University

A leading London university is looking for an experienced Research Support Officer to join their research administration team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly organised, detail-focused individual who enjoys supporting academic staff, managing finance processes, and coordinating a wide range of research activities.

In this varied and busy role, you’ll support one of the university’s major research groups, ensuring smooth delivery of grant activity, events, and day-to-day operations. You’ll work closely with academics, research services, and finance teams, acting as a key point of contact within the department.

Your New Role
As a Research Support Officer, you will:

  • Support research grant management, including audits, compliance checks, budget monitoring and financial reconciliations.
  • Process expenses, purchase orders, travel claims, timesheets and payments for casual workers and research volunteers.
  • Prepare and distribute financial and portfolio reports, working closely with finance and research services teams.
  • Coordinate seminars, workshops, conferences and group meetings, including travel, catering, logistics and room bookings.
  • Provide diary management, administrative assistance and organisational support to senior academic staff.
  • Maintain accurate records, filing systems, and update research-related systems such as Symplectic and Researchfish.
  • Support recruitment activities, preparing documentation and coordinating interview processes.
  • Deliver training on internal systems, including Oracle and MyExpenses.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
You will bring:

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload and multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, confident working with staff at all levels.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in financial processes.
  • Strong IT capability, ideally with experience using financial or institutional systems such as Oracle.
  • A proactive approach, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience within higher education or research administration is desirable but not essential.
What You’ll Get in Return
  • Competitive salary: £40,201–£45,700
  • Hybrid working for greater work‑life balance.
  • The chance to support internationally recognised research within a highly respected university.
