Hays are proud to be working in partnership with a Local Authority to recruit an experienced Project Manager to support a large and dynamic Directorate of Employment, Skills, Health & Communities (ESHC). This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within a high-impact Projects & Programmes Team that operates across the Directorate.

About the Role

The Projects & Programmes Team provides a cross-cutting function, supporting the mobilisation, delivery, and governance of a wide portfolio of employment, skills, and community programmes.
As a Project Manager, you will support the delivery of priority initiatives by providing robust project coordination, governance, and financial oversight across multiple programmes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and delivery of priority projects
  • Establish and maintain project management tools and documentation, including project plans, timelines, and critical paths
  • Produce regular progress reports and performance updates for senior stakeholders and programme boards
  • Develop and manage risk and issue registers, ensuring appropriate mitigation and escalation
  • Assist with procurement, legal, and commissioning processes, liaising with internal teams and external providers
  • Contribute to communications and stakeholder engagement, including drafting reports, web content, and event materials

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in project management within the public sector or similar complex environments
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience with governance, reporting, and risk management
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work across a varied programme portfolio
  • Knowledge of employment, skills, or community-based programmes is desirable.
