Your new role

As Project & ESG Manager, you will lead the delivery of high-profile projects across the organisation, including initiatives such as introducing electric vehicles and installing charging infrastructure. You’ll bring governance and structure to projects, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and industry standards. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Managing project lifecycles from initiation to completion, using RAID logs and best practice frameworks.
  • Driving ESG strategy, including carbon reduction plans, climate change initiatives, and annual reporting on emissions.
  • Supporting governance and risk management, including corporate risk registers and compliance frameworks.
  • Working closely with senior stakeholders and external bodies to secure recognition for ESG performance.
  • Leading a small team, including recruiting and managing a Senior Project Officer.

This is a highly collaborative role, requiring engagement with procurement teams, installers, and internal directorates to deliver business improvement and sustainability goals.

What you'll need to succeed

Essential
  • A degree or equivalent in project management, business administration, engineering, or related field
    OR
  • significant relevant project management, ESG or governance and risk management experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project management roles, demonstrating a track record of successfully delivering projects on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards
    OR
  • minimum of 3 years of experience in governance, risk management or compliance roles
    OR
  • minimum of 3 years of experience in ESG, sustainability, climate change or environmental management roles.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in client-facing roles, such as managing stakeholder relationships or delivering presentations to clients.
  • Strong organisational skills, including ability to multitask, prioritise tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Excellent management skills across multi-disciplined teams.
  • IT literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including MS Excel.
  • Ability to identify issues, analyse root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Results-oriented and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Desirable
  • Possession of a relevant project management certification, such as PRINCE2.
  • Professional qualification
  • ESG/sustainability-related qualification or certification.
  • Experience operating within an analytical environment, including development and dissemination of management information.
  • Knowledge and experience working in utilities, particularly the energy sector.
  • Knowledge and experience working in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing ESG strategies and initiatives, preferably within an energy or regulated business sector.
  • Experience with ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, TCFD, SECR, UNSDGs, GRESB).
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software.
