Project Controls Engineer - HPC

A major UK construction contractor is seeking an experienced Project Controls Engineer to join its delivery team on HPC on a long term temporary basis. This role offers the opportunity to support one of the country’s most complex engineering projects, working across planning, scheduling, cost control, progress measurement and performance reporting.
You will play a key role in ensuring schedule and cost integrity across multiple work packages, contractors and technical interfaces, helping to maintain robust governance and high‑quality project reporting.

The Role

As Project Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for:

Planning & Scheduling
  • Developing and maintaining integrated master schedules (IMS) using Primavera P6.
  • Managing baseline schedules, WBS structures and coding aligned to client requirements.
  • Conducting critical path analysis, float management and schedule risk analysis.
  • Reviewing contractor and subcontractor schedules for compliance.
Cost Control & Commercial Support
  • Analysing delays and supporting Extension of Time (EOT) and claims assessments.
  • Assisting with budget development, cost plans and cash‑flow forecasting.
  • Monitoring cost performance against budgets and funding limits.
  • Tracking variations, compensation events and change orders.
  • Supporting earned value management (EVM) and performance indices.
Progress Measurement & Reporting
  • Establishing progress measurement systems aligned with contract milestones.
  • Monitoring physical progress, productivity and installed quantities.
  • Producing weekly, monthly and executive‑level status reports.
  • Developing dashboards and KPIs across schedule, cost and risk.
Risk, Interface & Change Management
  • Supporting schedule and cost risk identification and mitigation.
  • Assessing impacts of design changes, utilities, land constraints and third‑party interfaces.
  • Maintaining change logs and supporting impact assessments.
Stakeholder Coordination & Governance
  • Coordinating with consultants, contractors, client teams and authorities.
  • Ensuring compliance with project controls procedures and governance requirements.
  • Participating in progress meetings, risk workshops and reviews.
About You
You will ideally have:
  • Strong’ experience in project controls or project management on large, complex infrastructure or construction projects.
  • A degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Strong communication skills and experience leading or supporting technical teams.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, EVM processes, and advanced Excel.
  • Experience with NEC‑based major infrastructure projects (desirable).
  • Experience with reporting tools such as Power BI or Primavera Analytics (preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills, stakeholder management capability and attention to detail.
  • Working towards professional chartership (e.g., RICS/CICES) is advantageous.
