6-month interim finance contract role

Interim finance opportunity – Project Accountant | Central Bristol

Charles Maidment from the Hays Bristol Senior Finance team is currently recruiting for an experienced Project Accountant on behalf of a financial services client based in Central Bristol.

  • Location: Central Bristol (3 days on site/ 2 days from home)
  • Contract: 6 months
  • Reporting to: Head of Insurance Finance
  • Team Size: No direct reports
  • Salary equivalent: £120,000 (outside IR35 as a day rate)

Role Overview:
This is a 6-month contract opportunity, ideal for a qualified accountant with strong project and process improvement experience. The successful candidate will play a key role in representing the finance function across strategic projects, enhancing financial controls, and supporting audit and assurance activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead finance input on key business projects
  • Review and improve existing finance processes
  • Strengthen the financial control environment
  • Support year-end audit and assurance activities
  • Drive automation and efficiency across finance operations
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve end-to-end processes

What We’re Looking For
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Proven experience in process improvement and project work
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Excellent data analysis and problem-solving abilities
  • Financial services experience preferred (insurance ideally)
  • Highly proficient in Excel
