Product Design Engineering Product Specialist – Mechanical CAD

Overview
We are seeking two Product Design Engineering Product Specialists – Mechanical CAD to join our Darlington team. This role plays a key part in leading the design and development of products, components, systems, and major project elements. You will apply advanced engineering principles and design practices to create optimised mechanical concepts that balance performance, cost, manufacturability, durability, and serviceability.

Location: Darlington (Hybrid: 3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
Contract: 6 months (extension expected upon positive evaluation)
Rate: £31.85–£38.22 per hour

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design and development activities for assigned products, components, and systems.
  • Create and refine 3D CAD models and mechanical design specifications using Creo.
  • Evaluate design concepts against cross‑functional requirements, including cost, weight, performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Assess alternative and competitive design solutions to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and other stakeholders to meet corporate and customer requirements.
  • Support issue resolution through robust analysis and design improvements.
Required Skills & Competencies
  • Proven ownership of engine system or component development.
  • Strong 3D CAD modelling and design capability (Creo experience required).
  • Experience with Windchill PLM (preferred but not essential).
  • Ability to work independently with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers and manufacturing teams.
  • Solid background in engine component or system analysis.
  • Recent experience with Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) component design and development is highly advantageous.
