Your new company

This is the opportunity to join a ground-breaking, start-up chemistry company based in Glasgow. Having secured an array of funding, the organisation focusses on creating molecules, drugs and materials, building an infrastructure to digitise chemistry and discover and produce molecules on demand. Since their inception, the company has and continues to enjoy substantial growth, with plans to expand overseas to Europe and the US over the coming years. The company are keen to onboard an enthusiastic, driven individual to join and develop their in-house procurement team.


Your new role

The key duties of your new role will include:


  • Work very closely with the chemistry team, engineering team, laboratory operations team, management, and other key stakeholders to source, purchase, and work towards rapid receipt of critical components to commercial delivery and product development.
  • Quickly order reagents, consumables, hardware, and other equipment. Prioritize according to business need and deploy processes and energy to ensure critical commercial activities are always best provided for
  • Work with the Supply chain manager to establish a world-class supply chain and thus ensure the success of the overall business
  • Work with finance to improve the controls, quality, audits, and efficiency of processes
  • Work with the Quality and Operations department to implement and continuously improved business critical activities related to the supply chain
  • Processing returns or supplier investigations for missing or damaged stock
  • Ensure rapid shipment from vendor and effective delivery to purchaser taking into account the quality of the products received
  • Build strong working relationships with vendors
  • Negotiate supply agreements with vendors to maximize savings on repeat purchases from high grossing vendors
  • Negotiate purchases to maximize savings on one-off purchases of equipment or other hardware
  • Organising service contracts for equipment ensuring both price and quality are considered to reduce downtime.
  • Approving suppliers and maintaining the approved supplier schedule for purchase of chemicals used in manufacture
  • Develop effective and stage-appropriate processes for order requests, fulfilment, and delivery
  • Take-on growing responsibilities during the transformation of the company from an R&D-stage organization to a commercial power-house
  • Work on additional tasks as the company needs


What you'll need to succeed

The ideal candidate will be an experienced procurement professional. You will ideally hold a degree in logistics and supply chain management or relevant work experience and be comfortable purchasing an array of goods and services carrying out both direct and indirect procurement. You will have experience negotiating quotes, contracts and other agreements and be comfortable running and improving processes. You will have strong communication and people skills, be able to use initiative and be eager to learn and develop alongside the company.
