Interim Procurement Business Partner
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
Day Rate: £500–£800 per day (Inside IR35)
Contract: Interim – 6 months initially

About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Procurement Business Partner to join a large public sector organisation on an interim basis, providing high‑level commercial support across a diverse and high‑profile portfolio and emerging strategic initiatives. Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will lead and shape a team of procurement professionals, driving best practice and ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation and internal procurement policies.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior procurement professional to influence major public sector programmes, support organisational transformation, and embed excellence across the procurement lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and delivery of procurement strategies across a range of directorates.
  • Manage, support and develop Senior Procurement Leads and wider team members.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for key internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Provide proactive, solutions‑focused commercial advice across complex and varied procurement portfolios.
  • Ensure compliant, efficient and effective delivery of procurement projects to time and budget.
  • Represent the organisation in stakeholder forums, offering strategic advice to local authority partners.
  • Produce high‑quality written reports and monthly progress updates.
  • Deliver procurement savings and efficiency targets.
  • Support and deputise for the Head of Procurement when required.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, benchmarking performance against local and national standards.

About You
You’ll be an experienced procurement leader with the ability to operate strategically while managing operational priorities. You’ll be confident influencing senior stakeholders, driving performance across teams, and navigating complex public sector procurement environments.
Essential Experience & Skills
  • Strong experience delivering end‑to‑end procurement, including tendering and evaluation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrable experience leading procurement teams and developing high‑performing individuals.
  • Deep understanding of the full procurement lifecycle.
  • Skilled problem solver with a track record of achieving results in complex settings.
  • Confident managing changing priorities and large, varied workloads.
  • Public sector procurement experience.
  • Relevant procurement qualification.
